Online ordering glitches and no controls at stores to thwart resellers top a long list of customer complaints

It’s hard to see how Target‘s (NYSE:TGT) much-anticipated offering of a collection by Jason Wu could have gone any worse.

As Joanna Douglas, Yahoo’s Senior Fashion and Beauty Editor, reports:

“When the clock struck midnight EST, a few items were available online…. But no one could find them. Target.com‘s search engine was not pulling up results for “Jason Wu,” and when you clicked on the Jason Wu collection icon on the main page, it just took you to a preview of the items. If you went to the women’s dresses section, you could see the Jason Wu styles. But rather than clicking on each item to purchase, you had to click on a tiny red “plus” sign to add to your cart — a new site component that confused even the most well-versed Target shoppers.”

For many people, the Jason Wu items were visibleonly on Google Chrome (NASDAQ:GOOG), not on Firefox or Apple‘s Safari (NASDAQ:AAPL).

“Sometimes items were added to the cart, only to disappear. Some shoppers had their orders canceled within minutes.”

Fashionista.com reports that the midtown Miami store’s complete stock — $7,000 worth — was bought by a couple who blatantly announced to stunned and furious fellow shoppers their intent to resell. A tipster shot a video of the incident.

The Miami couple weren’t the only resellers to spoil the party: Just 24 hours after the midnight unveiling, 12,000 items were on eBay (NASDAQ:EBAY), some already having sold for three to eight times their retail prices at Target.

More about the disaster, and Target’s response, at Yahoo.com and fashionista.com.
