Edwards Lifesciences Corp. EW � shares advanced 5.6% a day after it said initial trials of its heart valve yielded more positive results than in the past.

Hologic Inc. HOLX shares gained 6.2% a day after the medical-device maker hiked its full-year earnings forecast.

Mattel Inc. MAT �shares rose almost 5% after the toy maker reported robust fourth-quarter earnings and hiked its quarterly dividend to 31 cents a share from 23 cents.

Parexel International Corp. PRXL �climbed almost 18% after the pharmaceutical-research contractor late Monday projected third-quarter earnings that topped consensus estimates.

United States Steel Corp. X �shares climbed 5.1% after the steel manufacturer predicted better results in the first quarter.

VeriFone Systems Inc. PAY � shares rose more than 8% after J.P. Morgan said the maker of credit-card terminals would likely reap the most from MasterCard Inc.�s MA � use of new technology.

Vertex Pharmaceuticals Inc. VRTX �shares jumped 6.4% after the Food and Drug Administration approved its drug to treat cystic fibrosis.

Decliners

Align Technology Inc. ALGN �shares lost 7.2% after the manufacturer of teeth-straightening products late Monday projected first-quarter profit short of estimates.

Archer Daniels Midland Co. ADM �shares declined 3.6% after the grain processor reported a second-quarter profit that came in short of analysts� estimates.

Avery Dennison Corp. AVY �shares slid 5.4% after the office-supplies maker reported disappointing fourth-quarter results.

CNH Global NV CNH �U.S.-listed shares slumped 10.3% after the farm and construction-equipment maker offered a disappointing 2012 outlook.

RadioShack Corp. RSH �shares fell almost 30% a day after the consumer-electronics retailer suspended share buybacks and reported initial fourth-quarter earnings below Wall Street�s expectations. The results also hit RadioShack competitor Best Buy Co. BBY , down 5.6%.

Rent-A-Center Inc. RCII �shares shed 9.1%, a day after the rent-to-own retailer projected 2012 earnings lower than market estimates.

Rex Energy Corp. REXX �shares slumped almost 11% after the oil-and-gas company late Monday said it would offer 7 million shares.

Tellabs Inc. TLAB �shares lost 9.3% to $3.80 after the maker of communications equipment reported a fifth consecutive quarterly loss.

Waddell & Reed Financial Inc. WDR �shares dropped 7.2% after the mutual-fund company reported a 14% profit drop in the fourth quarter.
