Dreamworks Q1 Beats; Plans “Dragon” Sequal For 2013

Dreamworks Animation (DWA) this afternoon posted Q1 revenue of $162.1 million and profits of 24 cents a share, ahead of the Street at $135.6 million and 24 cents. The company notes that How To Train Your Dragon contributed $59.7 million in revenue to the quarter. To date, the movie has generated $180 million in domestic box office receipts and $195 million in international box office receipts.

Dreamworks said it plans to release a sequel to Dragons in 2013.

DWA in late trading is unchanged at $42.36.

The movie is worth seeing by the way; for various reasons, I’ve seen it twice.
