Apple Inc. (AAPL) Rumors – iPod Shuffle Touch Leaked, iPhone Lawsuit Goes Class Action

Heres the latest Apple Inc. rumors and news on AAPL stock as of Monday, July 12. The week kicks off with even more leaks and rumors about Apple’s new line of iPods, Wi-Fi-enabled iPhones storm the Chinese market, and a three-year-old lawsuit against Apple and AT&T goes class-action:

iPod Shuffle Touch Leaked: Coming hot on the heels of last week’s rumors that AAPL would be refreshing their entire iPod Touch product line comes leaked images of what may be the new iPod Shuffle Touch. Apple.pro found images of a 1.18 inch square touchscreen. The connector cable coming from the side of the screen has an Apple copyright printed on it, giving the component a hearty dose of authenticity. The current model of iPod Shuffle is both the cheapest of AAPL’s many handheld products, it also has the least functionality. Just over 1 inch in length, the Shuffle comes in two models, a 2GB or 4GB SKU, neither of which feature a display. A Touch model would invigorate the product line, but it remains to be seen how Apple would integrate the iOS operating system or iPhone 4 and iPad applications on so small a device.

iPhone Approved for China, but not iPhone 4: APPL has been struggling to get their popular line of Wi-Fi-enabled smartphones to market in China, but Chinese regulators have blocked their efforts. An iPhone capable of using Wi-Fi hotspots is appealing to both Apple and the Chinese public; AAPL wants to sell iPhones and Chinese citizens don’t want to pay astronomical fees for data plans. Now, according to a report in today’s Wall Street Journal, China’s Telecommunication Equipment Certification Center has approved a license for a Wi-Fi-enabled iPhone for sale in China. The iPhone pictured in the approval announcement, however, appears to be an iPhone 3G/3GS not the newly released iPhone 4.

AT&T iPhone Exclusivity Lawsuit Upgraded to Class-Action Status: The Verizon (VZ) customers are restless! A lawsuit filed in 2007 against APPL and ATT accusing the technology manufacturer and the phone carrier of exerting a monopoly over iPhone customers has now been granted class-action status. U.S. District Court of Northern California Judge James Ware granted the class-action status this past week. This means that the plaintiffs in the case now represent the over 20 million individuals who have purchased any model of iPhone in the United States since the device first launched three years ago. While there are rumors that a Verizon-supported model of the iPhone will be sold as soon as this coming Fall, ATT is still the exclusive provider for Apple’s smartphone as of this writing.
