Google (GOOG) will add tethering and WiFi hot spot functionality to the next version of Android, known as Android 2.2, or Froyo, according to TechCrunch. The new version of the mobile phone operating system software also is supposed to include full Flash support and “a whopper of a speed improvement.”
Tethering allows you to use your phone to connect your laptop to the Internet; mobile hot spot functionality should allow you to connect multiple devices to the Internet.
Neither feature is currently possible on Apple (AAPL) iPhones sold in the U.S.
