What’s that old joke about what would happen if cars had operating systems?
That occurred to me this morning when I was reading about General Motors (GM) announcing that it will add new location-based features to a Google (GOOG) Android app targeted at owners of the Chevrolet Volt. The goal, GM says, is to provide Volt Customers “with the most connected vehicle experience possible.”
The app was first unveiled at CES in January. GM today is showing off some features of the coming upgraded version of the app, including a way for Volt owners to track the location of their car using an Android phone. Also new: the ability to ask by voice to have Google Maps directions sent to the car’s OnStar navigation system.
