The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed up for the eighth straight day Tuesday, edging up 2.77 points, 0.02%, to close at 14,450.06, a record. It’s also the sixth consecutive day the index has set a record close, the longest such streak since the heady days of the late 1990s (Feb. 18, 1998 to be exact). The Dow is up 9.7% in the past year and has risen 10.3% in 2013.
The S&P 500 index couldn’t keep its own streak alive, falling for the first time in seven days. Its 0.24% decline saw the index close at 1,552.48. The Russell 2000 also fell, and also lost 0.24%, to close at 940.26. Nevertheless, the small-cap index is still up 10.7% this year, and 13.1% in the past year.
