Avian Securities released its March wireless retail survey data earlier today. Among the interesting details: Motorola‘s (MOT) improved success from its new Android devices. The company’s Backflip deviceis now the third best-selling device at AT&T (T). And Motorola’s Droid remains the “clear and stable” #1 at�Verizon Wireless, Avian says.
“Net-net, Motorola hit a new high in our survey, the company is executing its smartphone strategy very well, and we see clear upside risk to our above guidance 2.0 million smartphone shipment forecast for 1Q10,” Avian analyst Matthew Thornton wrote in a note to clients.
In Avian’s retail survey, Motorola now has an 18% market share among U.S. wireless carriers, up from 13% in February.
Some other stats from Avian’s report:
- Research In Motion (RIMM) maintained the #1 share spot in March,� with 31% of the market, down from 32% in February. HTC was third with a stable 14% and the Apple (AAPL) iPhone is fourth at 13% (up from 12%).
- The top five devices in March (in rank order) were: iPhone, RIM 9700, RIM Tour, Motorola Droid and RIM 8520/30.
