"Jack the Giant Slayer" Tops Weekend Box Office

Fantasy adventure�film Jack the Giant Slayer -- distributed by Time Warner (NYSE: TWX  ) subsidiary Warner Brothers -- took the No. 1 spot at the domestic box office this past weekend, according to data released by media management firm Rentrak. The film, making its debut in theaters, recorded just more than $28 million in domestic revenue.

Jack also ranked first overall in total worldwide sales, pulling in another $13.7 million overseas to bring its weekend cumulative total to $41.7 million.

A Good Day to Die Hard, the fifth installment of the Die Hard action series, topped the international box office with $18.3 million this past weekend. While the film, distributed by News Corp. (NASDAQ: NWS  ) subsidiary 20th Century Fox, barely cracked the top 10 domestically (landing at No. 9), the weekend's sales brought its total box office run to over $220 million.

Warner Brothers' The Hobbit continues to perform well despite being released last year; the film pulled in another $9.2 million internationally this weekend to bring its cumulative box office sales to over $1 billion. The film is now�the 15th highest-grossing film of all time, according to Box Office Mojo.
